Lotus Blooming In A Sea of Fire CDs And Videos Now Available
On May 24, 2000, Lotus Blooming in a Sea of Fire received its premiere at Dartmouth Colleges Spaulding Auditorium before a full house of 900. Due to schedule limitations, it was the only performance given. Fortunatelyand perhaps miraculouslyit was a winner. Months of preparation were funneled into two short hours, and the intensity of the evening drove the cast and crew to a new level. The energy was palpable.
Backstage, Britt Myers was rolling tape. During the weeks of post-production that followed, he took the raw, extraordinary performances and sculpted a soundscape that is clear and clean yet unmistakably live. Meanwhile, Kirk Roberts, the poster and program designer for the production, created a beautiful 24-page booklet to accompany the recording, complete with excellent production photos by Alex Waldman.
In the back of the auditorium, Rick Richardson was also rolling tapevideotape. His work, which draws footage from both the performance and the dress rehearsal earlier that afternoon (Britts CD comes strictly from the performance), is a dynamic representation of the semi-staged performance.
Thanks to them, the energy is still palpable.
Both the double-disc CD and the video are now available. Please visit the Merchandise section for ordering information.
