Concert for Joe
Here's the information from the show that Stand Up Eight and four other bands
played in memory of Joe Nagraj, a onetime member of all five bands who recently
died of brain cancer. Although Joe was greatly missed in every set, the show
was a tremendous success, drawing hundreds of people for six continuous hours
of music!

We recently suffered a tremendous loss when Joe Nagraj, former Stand Up Eight
guitarist, passed away in May 2005 after a complication in brain surgery.
Doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumor in April 2004. He may have suffered
mild symptoms for years. If Joe had understood the importance of early detection,
his tumor may have been treated years earlier and avoided the complications
that led to his death. Hopefully this event in Joe’s memory, which falls in
the same weekend as Brain Tumor Awareness Day, will help others who face the
difficult choices, fear and sadness he struggled with during his illness.
About the bands performing:
Joe was a master guitarist, who’d played, at different times, with the bands
coming together this night.
Stand Up Eight (SF, Seattle, NY) (Alan Grubner, Tony Jurado, Josh Nadelberg,
Andy May, Mike Roberts)
With members now scattered across the US, Stand Up Eight comes together for this special show bringing together again the powerful vocal stylings of Josh Nadelberg and stellar musicianship of Alan Grubner, Tony Jurado, Andy May, and Mike Roberts. It’s been over seven years since Stand Up Eight last performed in New York City and the band will travel to New York for this special reunion show in memory of brother-in-music, Joe Nagraj.
Loaded Dreams (Brooklyn) (Dorothy Hui. Gene Park)
Brooklyn-based LOADED DREAMS' delicately haunting melodies weave the chaotic with the ethereal, inviting you to ride the ebbs and flows of beauty and noise. 'Pensive and passionate' [Alternative Press], Loaded Dreams melds drones, feedback and loops with guitars, organs, violas and 'siren vocals too roiling to gaze at many shoes as they climb toward hallucinogenic clouds' [Village Voice].
Dimestore Scenario (Brooklyn) (Rachel Federman)
Four years ago Time Out New York wrote that Dimestore Scenario 'sometimes reinvents pop, and it’s a big claim to live up to, especially for a band which certainly defies category. Lead singer and songwriter Federman’s unusual voice carries the specter of the past, with an innocence masking layers of wistfulness that go way beyond nostalgia.
The Corduroys (Huntington, LI, NY)
The Corduroys are an original rock band with a definite twang and solid pop sensibility. Hailing from the streets of Long Island, NY, The Corduroys have a wide array of influences from the worlds of rock, country, folk, pop, and anything else that holds their attention for a few minutes.
June Fool (Brooklyn)
The fleeting hooks and surging release of June Fool’s latest incarnation their darkest and most complex conjures up traces of Rainer Maria, Portishead with an edge, or a PJ Harvey resigned to melody rather than anger. Like the best of modern indie/pop outfits, the power trio feels expansive and open, all the while keeping secrets.
