The New Stand Up Eight

Travis Porter and Chris Webber join the team

Along with a new area and new venues for its unique blend of melodic lyricism and full-throttle funk, Stand Up Eight has added a new drummer to the mix—Arizona native and recent Boulder resident, Travis Porter—and a new bassist, Bay Area native Chris "Spoony" Webber.

Travis comes to us after nearly two years with Stand Up Eight saxophonist Tony Jurado in the Boulder band Flow House, an improvisational acid jazz outfit. Travis brings a unique musical sensibility to Stand Up Eight: his drumming is in the pocket, yet startlingly subtle and melodic; Travis' facility with a number of percussion instruments, such as the xylophone-like marimba, promises to bring a whole array of new sonic colors to the Stand Up Eight palette. The band is beyond excited to have him on the team.

Spoony owns four BMW's and races them on weekends. The speed of his racing is matched only by the speed of his hot bass licks, which he purveys on a veritable armada of electric bass masterpieces. Spoony is the man.
