STAND UP EIGHT TAKES (BRIEF) HIATUS IN 2003

With Mike spending January and February in Tampa working on a production of his opera, "Lotus Blooming in a Sea of Fire," at the Blake School for the Arts, Stand Up Eight took a short break from the Bay Area scene for the start of 2003. Fortunately the show was a big success, and the band has returned to San Francisco with a new downtown rehearsal space and a renewed urge to bring a little beautiful music into the world.

NEWS FROM 2002
"A little old, but still tasty."

NOV. 13 SHOW at LAST DAY SALOON "WAY SWEET"

Stand Up Eight closed out our first year in the Bay Area with a Wednesday night show at the Last Day Saloon in San Francisco, dubbed "way sweet" by the faithful who rallied to the Richmond for the gig. Two new songs received their world premiere, with Mike making his first public performance on mandolin with the band. Travis came out from behind the kit to make a few heartfelt speeches to the appreciative crowd, Spoony played his most badass bass solo of the year, and all of us agreed it was our best show yet. A fine way to end a fine year in this fine region we now lovingly call home.

TONY and MIKE PLAY GIG WITH MEMBERS OF STRANGEFOLK and RAW DELUXE at BRUNO'S

On November 14th, Tony and Mike were invited to sit in with a veritable supergroup drawn from noted jam-bands Strangefolk and Raw Deluxe at Stand Up Eight's old stomping grounds, Bruno's. The impromptu sextet, which featured Luke (drums) and John (guitar) from Strangefolk and Chris (bass) and Matt (keys) from Raw Deluxe, enjoyed speaking the international musical language of improvised funky groove for two entire sets. Among many highlights of the evening were at least two or three renditions of "Pass the Dutchie."

SU8 PLAYS SUPRISE SHOW at BLAKE'S, 10/20

We had a last-minute booking at Blake's on Telegraph in Berkeley on Sunday, October 20th. Notice was a little too short for most of the faithful to attend, but we had a great time playing our first show at one of the finest rooms in downtown Berkeley. Josh and Travis' performances were particularly complimented when two very appreciative new fans purchased each of them a fine pint of honey brew in the middle of the set. Ahh, sweet honey brew!

Look for more Blake's shows in the near future.
